What is The Funding Network?

The Funding Network (TFN) runs live crowdfunding events where selected organisations pitch for six minutes to a room of donors, who then pledge on the spot. It is designed for small organisations that are too early or too small for many traditional funders, and it builds visibility as well as funds.

Selection to pitch is competitive, and the application is the first test of whether you can tell your story clearly.

Who it is for

TFN is aimed at grassroots organisations. Funders generally look for organisations that:

  • Are small not-for-profits or social enterprises with modest revenue
  • Have a compelling story and clear impact
  • Are ready to grow
  • Can send a strong presenter to the event

What it funds and how much

Funds raised are typically unrestricted or program focused. Common uses include:

  • Program delivery and expansion
  • Staffing and capacity
  • Pilot projects
  • Growth into new communities

How to write a competitive application

Winning a pitch spot takes clarity and heart. Here is what makes an application stand out.

1. Tell a clear story

Who you help, what changes and why it matters, in plain language.

2. Show early impact

Even small results prove the model works.

3. Be specific about the ask

What the funds will do and what happens next.

4. Prepare to present

A confident, authentic presenter makes the difference on the night.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • A story that is hard to follow
  • No evidence of impact
  • A vague use of funds
  • Applying when the organisation is too large for the program
